Some New Year resolutions
- Less reading blogs
- More writing blogs
- Release more software
- No more sugar, sweets, confectionary (free pass for tea, if I can’t manage that plain)
- No coffee
- More politeness
- Less judgement
There’s some lofty goals there. Let’s see how well I fare. An important thing to remember about giving things up, which I learnt when quitting my oodles-of-fags-a-day smoking habit, is that a lapse shouldn’t mean that you just abandon the effort. Some of them are obviously aspirational, and need to be viewed as a progression, not a destination.
I have a few more, given that I’m such a fan of self-improvement, but I won’t share everything.
Last year my only public resolution was to stop drinking alcohol, and that lasted three months, until I got very bored of it. I don’t think I have a drinking problem yet.

Great set of resolutions – good luck!
I’ve just read your 2008 resolutions – have you ever done a champagne / sparkling wine tasting?
It would be really interesting to see if you liked the champagne best in such a test. I’d like to try that too… I wonder how we could arrange it… oops sorry this is all suggesting more drinking… hmm…
I’ve done some wine tasting, I used to work for a wines and spirits conglomerate, and I’ve certainly tasted some plain sparkly wines that I’ve preferred to proper champagne. I don’t think I’m a wine snob, but I don’t really know much about it. I’ve tried some english sparkling wines that I’d probably think were champagne in a blind test.
My 2008 dedication to champagne was married to the fact that it’s so expensive, which I thought made it a fair free pass.
